Today is a good day to talk retirement! Over the next few years we will see a major shift in our demographics. We will enter a time where there are more people retired than in the workforce.
Had our governments in the past put away the money we had contributed to our Canada Pension Plan then we would feel quite comfortable about our future…. But they haven’t put our money away. They spent it! Flush with cash, they’ve paid for many programs which have caused us to shake our heads in disgust.
But the time has come to pay the piper! As we enter this period of large demographic shift, our pensions are a liability to the government… a debt!
We have not only saddled our children with a massive debt which, at the present rate of repayment, will take about 125 years to repay, we have also put on their backs the cost of paying for our retirement.
The CHP would implement a Personal Income Security Account.
A Personal Income Security Account would provide a portable investment portfolio, vested in the name of each worker, for health, employment and retirement income. This plan was proposed for Canada in 1980 by a Christian politician, Dr. Robert N. Thomson. It was rejected by Parliament, but a few years later it was adopted by Chile. Chilean workers at that time were given the option of continuing on the tax-funded pension plan, or going on the new investment plan. Those who chose the investment plan are now retiring wealthy -- and Chile has become an economic powerhouse in Latin America because of the pools of investment created.

I believe is very important for York Simcoe that government reevaluates the way we collect taxes. We have a large population which commutes to Toronto every day. This is expensive! Gas prices are high! We have a large farming community which pays for gas in farm implements and shipping of produce. Gas prices are high!
Further, our income is not the business of our government. This is something which is our private property because it is our labour which earns.
We pay tax upon tax, with some levels of taxation hidden to us. We are overtaxed due to poor management by our governments.
The CHP would eliminate the income tax and simplify the tax structure.
Rather than our present income tax, we would have a Consumer tax on all goods, less the essentials.
Thus we are all encouraged to work because we are receiving for our own use that which we have earned by our labour.
When we spend money is where we pay our taxes. We would have a consumer tax rate around 20%.
This would simplify our tax structure to one level of taxation, save Canadians money, and benefit areas of long commutes, such as York Simcoe, by decreasing the price of gas.

I hope you all had a joyous and blessed Christmas and New Year.
With a new leader of federal Liberal Party, it seems like a good time to notice what he's saying.
Stephane Dion, leader of the federal Liberal Party, would introduce tax measures to encourage Canadians to choose appliances that conserve electricity, cars that use the least amount of gas and for retrofitting homes to reduce heating fuel consumption.
''We want to make a link between your wallet and the planet,'' he said, adding that such measures will be part of the party's next election platform. ''It's the way you change the culture.''
While I appreciate Mr. Dion's concern for the environment. Most of us are concerned about the environment. Most of us, for economic reason's as well as environmental concerns, are trying to find ways to cut our fuel consumption. Some of us have turned down our heat in the winter and raised our air conditioning temperature in the summer. Some of us have installed fans rather than air conditioners. Our efforts to conserve benefit our environment, which we're all concerned about, along with which our efforts are done according to what we can afford to do.
Canadians work hard for their money and to be penalised by our (prospective) government because Mr. Dion wants a link between our wallet and anything is outrageous. If we are less highly taxed we can choose to upgrade our appliances. But we should not have our money taken from us and given back only if we will spend it according to Mr. Dion's priorities. That is an infringement on our liberties.
What about the people whose finances are so close to the wire that they can't afford to retrofit their homes? What about those who don't own their own home? They are penalised, by not qualifying for tax incentives, because they can't afford to spend according to Mr. Dion's priorities.
No thank you, Mr. Dion. I want my taxes lowered so I can decide what would benefit my home, my family and my environment best. I am a reasoning, functioning adult and I'm able to do this.

The Liberal plan of income tax cuts benefited low and middle income earners more. However, increases could be too easily hidden with our complex returns. The element of trust with handling the taxpayer dollars has been lost.
The Conservative lowering of the GST, while very welcome, benefits those that have more disposable income.... the upper income earners. If a person spends $1,000 on “luxuries” each month or $100 on “luxuries”, the amount of tax saved is proportionate. The one with more to spend saves $10.00, while the one with less disposable cash saves only $1.00.
I welcome any tax cuts, however, taxation linked to outflow rather than income ensures that those that can least afford taxes, are taxed less. Obviously a good thing!
There are other inequities and absurdities in the tax regime. For example, corporations do not actually pay income tax; they pass it on to consumers as a cost of doing business. If we were to rescind the corporate income tax, and instead apply a consumer's tax (with exemptions for the necessities of life: food, clothing, housing, utilities, prescription medicines), we could raise the same revenue, but corporations would flock to Canada to do business in a tax-free environment.

We all hate paying taxes, however, we know we must support our government, health costs, infrastructure, etc.
The question is, are we dealing with our nation's finances wisely?
Our present tax regime penalises single-income families and that penalty must be eliminated.
In the early 1990's a single-income farm family appealed the Income Tax Act, based on Section 15, the "Equal Rights" section of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms".
They alleged that because they were married and a one-income family, they paid about $4,500 a year more in taxes than if they had been cohabiting or if they were a two-income family earning the same net income.
The Supreme Court ruled - that the equality provisions of Section 15 apply only to groups who have been historically discriminated against.
In other words, we are free to discriminate against anyone who we have not, in the past, discriminated against. A ludicrous ruling!
This inequity could be resolved by allowing income-splitting within one-income families.
Similarly is it fair that corporations are able to pass their income tax costs on to their customers as a cost of doing business?
Eliminating income-tax and replacing it with a consumer tax (on non-essentials) would ensure that the those with little available cash are taxed at a lower rate than those with ready available cash. This would be a benefit to our economy by making Canada an enticing place for corporations to build or expand.
The Christian Heritage Party advocates zero-based budgeting, in which every proposed expenditure by every governmental department must be justified by a cost-benefit analysis before it is entered into the budget. This would ensure programs that may have served a useful purpose, at some time, are not carried forward year after year at tax payer expense.
It's time the people of York Simcoe voted CHP.
Together, we can build a better Canada.

Some candidates promise us the world. Of course, we all know that, when the time comes, whoever is elected will conveniently forget those promises. We don’t expect our politicians to keep their word.
Why Not????
If our politicians acted with integrity then they would admit that any money they offer to give back to us was ours in the first place. The government should not be trying to bribe us with our own money.
If our government acted with integrity they would eliminate waste and patronage.
The governing parties voted for themselves a portion of your money and mine to pay for their campaigns. I have voted for the Christian Heritage Party since 1988. And yet a portion of my tax dollars goes to support the campaigns of other political parties.
I will stand against this waste of tax payer’s money. If your money goes to support the campaign of a political party, it should be your choice what political party you support.
It’s time the people of York-Simcoe demanded our government act with integrity.
It’s time the people of York-Simcoe voted CHP.

Honesty & Integrity
Our Policy Manual, “The Blueprint for Restoration” states:
6.5 HONESTY AND INTEGRITY
6.5.1 INTEGRITY OF PUBLIC SERVANTS
Government must set a good example in its conduct and integrity. Failure on the part of political leaders and officials must be dealt with as especially reprehensible.
Tonight as I was out talking with my neighbours I found many of them concerned about the lack of integrity in our government. There were many who voiced disillusionment to the point that they were considering not voting this year.
I was so glad that I could tell them that the Christian Heritage Party offers Canadians a moral alternative. I could tell them that we believe that the principles that built this country, made Canada one of the most successful cultures, are the principles that can restore her to greatness. I was glad that I could offer them an alternative to the Liberal and Conservative corruption that we’ve endured for so many years.
I believe that those in a leadership position should be held to a higher standard. I take seriously my accountability before God.
“It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” Hebrews 10:31
It’s time the people of York-Simcoe voted for the moral alternative.
It’s time the people of York-Simcoe voted CHP!
