The case for an abortion law
It wasn’t a coincidence that over 12 000 people, just some of the 57% of Canadians who are not satisfied with or lack of regulation of abortion in Canada, showed up on Parliament Hill in Ottawa on May 14, 2009. They did so because it was 40 years, to the day since Canada had an abortion law. When Pierre Trudeau took the government "out of the bedrooms of the nation,"it was anything goes.
I would like to see a law which compels anyone who is asking for an abortion to sit through an hour with a counsellor who will explain to the woman what can happen to her because of the abortion. This is not much to ask because, the government is paying over $800.00 or more for her to have this procedure for a non-medical problem, out of our stretched health budget.
With an average of 100 000 abortions per year about $80 000 000.00 disappears from the health budget to end pregnancies. These are old statistics, as governments are not too eager to have the public know what is going on, and they don’t want to open the "can of worms" which they expect will be the result of debating abortion. It may be $100 000 000.00 or more, but I think that the counselling would result in 50% of the women carrying their babies to term, and many would be put up for adoption. This would result in a saving of forty to fifty million dollars for our health budget, and many happy couples who are not able to produce their own children.
What knowledge would cause these women considering abortion to recant?
1. They would learn that women who have abortions are more likely to have breast cancer than their sisters who have not had abortions. There was little or no breast cancer 40 years ago. It is a curse which has come upon us with the destruction of children in the womb. Cf, www.AbortionBreastCancer.com
2. They would learn that women who have had abortions are prone to
Depression;
3. They would learn that women who have had abortions are three to five times as likely to abuse drugs as other women;
4. They would learn that they are likely to experience guilt, and have difficulty with relationships;
5. They would learn that they could die from the anaesthetic, or othercomplications, or have endometriosis causing them to be sterile because of their abortion.
On May 14, the Silent No More men and women confirmed all of the above. Ten women and three men poured out their grief regarding their drugs, alcohol, self loathing, and guilt, inability to hold onto a relationship, and sterility. And that they had killed their own children!
Canadian couples are going to amazing lengths to adopt children. It costs in the neighbourhood of $30 000.00 to adopt a Chinese child including the costs of two visits, accommodation etc. It’s just as difficult in Africa, ask Madonna.
The counsellors should have a portfolio with pictures of potential adoptive parents and the list of benefits which are available to the woman. She has three choices of the type of adoption she might favour: open adoption which allows personal contact at various times; semi-open adoption with exchange of letters and pictures etc. and closed adoption, safeguarding the anonymity of the mother.
www.adoptionviverecanada.com
Abortion doesn’t just harm the women, but it does most harm to them. It also harms the rest of society. Our workforce has been depleted by 3.2 million individuals over those 40 years since 1969. Schools are closing at higher rates than in the past. For example, in 1969, there were 160 000 children in school in Newfoundland, and today there are only 80 000.
Who might these children have been? There might have been a Steven Hawking, and an Einstein, an Indira Ghandi, some great athletes, some people with severe health issues, and a lot of normal Joes and Joans like us.
Young women do receive counselling today, but they are told that the fetus is just a blob of cells. It is definitely a lot of cells, some of them part of a beating heart by 21 days. By 12 weeks it sleeps and awakens, exercises vigorously, by curling its toes and moving its head, opens and closes its mouth, and in the 13th week begins to grow hair.
www.lifecyclebooks.com
The savings to the country would not be just directly to our health budget, but indirectly for what might be called "collateral damage": the hundreds of women who are psychologically affected by the termination of their pregnancies are costing untold millions in: loss of productivity, drug addiction, inability to maintain relationships. And many men are similarly affected. One "fifty minute hour" is not much to ask! Give us a law with compassion, not teeth!

Canada's Senate Disciplines Canadians
Bill S-209, often called the anti-spanking law, has once again passed first reading in the Canadian Senate.
This Bill would allow state intervention in our homes should we spank our children. According to studies published in the United States, in 1993, and quoted in a Health Canada publication, "The Invisible Boy: Revisioning the Victimization of Male Children and Teens", 90% of adults use corporal punishment to discipline their children and correct the child's behaviour.
Discipline by loving parents has included spanking for millennia. Yet, Canadian parents now face the wrath of the government should they use this traditional form of discipline to correct their children's behaviour: this in spite of the past successes of corporal punishment in training future generations and the failure of current methods of discipline to curb errant children.
But the real questions have to be: Whose children are they? What right has the government to interfere in the discipline of loving parents? Should Canadian parents be disciplined for doing their best to ensure they raise responsible citizens using God approved methods?
Scripture describes four realms of government: self government, familial government, church government, and civil government. Each level of government is granted its own realm of authority.
We have heard often that Pierre Elliott Trudeau spoke about the state entering the bedrooms of the nation. But, this Bill grants authority for the government to enter not only our bedrooms but our family. They have usurped the order instituted by God. They have disturbed the order of our Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms which, in its preamble, places God as supreme over this nation.
Whose children are they? Without the parents, who created the child, the state is barren to produce children. The parents were responsible for producing the children and they stand before God to account for their raising of their children. Should a parent decide to immigrate to a different country, the children would also go along. This is a parent's prerogative to choose where their family lives. The Canadian government does not have the right to take a child from its home and remove it to another country. Parents are responsible for their children, the state is not!
This leads us to the second question. If a parent, who is with the child and able to see them dash out into the street, sees them disrespect other people, sees them steal from a store, corrects the child's behaviour then what right has the state, who was not present for the behaviour, and has no love for the child, to decide that the form of discipline was inappropriate? Absolutely none!
Is the state responsible for disciplining parents for using the parents God given authority? Certainly not! Parents have not broken a moral law by training their children to be responsible adults using time honoured methods of discipline.
The only moral law broken would be the child's refusal to submit to parental authority. "Honour your father and your mother, as the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live long and that it may go well with you in the land the Lord your God is giving you." It is important to remember that this is the first Commandment with a promise attached to it.
Perhaps we need to be reminded of the sphere of civil government. It is God's instrument to do us good. When government opposes God's order, it is no longer an instrument to do us good. The Christians of Biblical times were told by government to revere Caesar as a god. They were unable to obey because what was commanded contravened the authority of God. Similarly, when our government usurps the God given authority of parents, we are wise to voice our resistance prior to its becoming a law we cannot obey.
Today is a good day to lobby a Senator and your MP to remind them that their authority is not supreme.

The 'Tug-of-War' of GLB Demands
OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 3, 2009) - Jim Hnatiuk, leader of CHP Canada, points out two recent developments within the gay, lesbian or bisexual (GLB) community that demand further investigation.
The first is a recent GLB complaint against Health Canada and the Public Health Agency of Canada, submitted to the Canadian Human Rights Commission last month.
In the complaint, the complainants say they don't receive equitable levels of programming support from Health Canada, compared with support for the general population or other minorities.
The GLB complaint reveals a significant increase in health problems within the GLB communities. To quote only a few from their submission:
- "... gay/bisexual men have a life expectancy 20 years less than the average man in Canada";
- "..lesbians have higher rates of breast cancer"; and
- "within the area of HIV/AIDS that the inequities in Health Canada and Public Health Agency of Canada policies and programs vis-a-vis GLB people are most clearly illustrated... If one uses Statistic Canada's figure of 1.7% for the percentage of the population that is GLB..., the infection rate is 26 times higher than the general population."
"It's important to place this within the context of a second recent development," Hnatiuk said, "a 'Social Justice Conference' staged by the BC Teacher's Federation in Feb.
Although the stated purpose of that conference was to help teachers implement the Social Justice 12 curriculum adopted under BC's Corren Settlement Agreement, a disturbing hidden purpose was revealed by a graphic, distributed in the information packages: the real goal is to move students' attitude towards LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered and questioning) people beyond "tolerance" to "celebration". (graphic available at: www.chp.ca)
Hnatiuk concludes with this question, "Should Canadian students be taught to celebrate behaviour that the GLB community itself links to shorter life expectancy, higher rates of breast cancer, and an HIV/AIDS infection rate 26 times higher than the general population?"

"I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."
These words of Voltaire are being ignored by the University of Calgary and we, their own students and the victims of their oppression, wish to expose their censorship, intimidation, and bully-tactics . We implore our fellow Canadians-who may disapprove of what we say but who will defend our right to say it-to support our rights to free speech, to communicate their disagreement to U of C, and to withdraw support from the university until U of C upholds academic freedom.
We have been threatened with suspension, expulsion, and arrest. Why? Because we dare to peacefully express our unpopular opinion. If it can happen to us, it can happen to you.
We are members of Campus Pro-Life (CPL), a U of C student club that seeks to educate about abortion. Each semester on campus since 2006, we have peacefully exhibited the Genocide Awareness Project (GAP)-an outdoor exhibit that visually compares abortion to historical atrocities, such as the Holocaust. We have always been non-violent and respectful, engaging in reasoned, calm discussion with passersby.
In the latest of a series of what can only be called a systematic denial of liberty of those who disagree with the majority, the University of Calgary has told us that our GAP display is banned from campus unless we point our signs inwards. Being told to turn our signs inwards is like being told we can express our views as long as nobody can hear us. Being told we can express ourselves, but with our signs inwards, is like telling black people they can ride the bus-but demanding they sit at the back. It's unconscionable!
To make matters worse, our own student union - to whom we are forced to pay membership - has told us they will likely impose penalties on our club, up to and including de-sanctioning, if we defy U of C.
In supporting the university's oppression of students the S.U. has become the very beast its existence was supposed to prevent. They have ceased to fight for the rights of students and have become one with the body they were to guard against. Does the Students Union not realize that their accepting the suppression of one set of students opens the path for a more general suppression? Clearly they have forsaken both wisdom and justice.
U of C has told our club that if our members dare to defy the university, and exhibit our signs outwards as we have for years, then those members could face arrest and charges of non-academic misconduct up to and including expulsion. We shall not allow intimidation to stifle our spirit of determination. If we back down, who then will stand? If our rights are taken from us, whose rights shall be guaranteed? There is no compromise with viewpoint discrimination. We demand freedom.
And freedom is a keystone upon which our country was built. Thousands of our bravest have died in defence of this principle. We Canadians proudly declare "the true North strong and free." But, from St. John's on the Atlantic to Victoria on the pacific, an iron curtain is descending around university campuses across Canada.
Pro-life students at Lakehead University, The University of Guelph, UBC Okanagan, the University of Victoria, as well as many others, have faced repercussions, up to and including de-sanctioning or disallowing of their clubs, because of their moral beliefs. Is freedom of speech only to be extended to those who shout the party line? If so, then the Soviet Union was also an ardent exponent for freedom of expression!
Despite pleas and arguments for the restoration of their freedoms, on many campuses pro-life advocates are facing increasingly intolerant opposition. Broken and betrayed, free speech is receding into darkness.
Arrest, the police have told us, could result in consequences that would haunt us all our lives. Of what meaning should the rest of our lives be if we had no liberty? If we allow ourselves to be meekly stripped of liberty, who then will stop this same perversion from occurring to other fellow Canadians? As the fiery Patrick Henry once declared to a nation on the brink of independence, "Give me liberty or give me death!"
Francis Fukayama once wrote on "The End of History," will a time come when our generation shall be forced to write on the end of democracy? For democracy itself hangs in the balance. Without freedom of expression, voting is devoid of any purpose, for all candidates would be identical.
Democracy is the thin line that separates us from the regimes of Stalin, Mao and Castro. If this line does not hold then our country shall become a dictatorship. Negotiate, the university tells us, and you will save your futures. But the right to life and the right to freedom of speech to defend that life are non-negotiable. History shows that those appease for the sake of peace or harmony will inevitably be drawn to war. Neville Chamberlain, the Prime Minister of Britain in 1938, proclaimed peace for his age because he seemingly negotiated a settlement with Hitler. Three years later Britain faced annihilation.
Shall we, like as many Chamberlains, appease the modern Hitler? Shall we allow not only our rights but those of every Canadian citizen to be trampled underfoot? We may be punished for our stand, but the price of freedom is sacrifice. The University of Calgary seeks to end the reign of justice. We cannot - we will not - allow it. So let them do what they will, for we shall do what we must.

An important statement to the rest of the pro-life community from the CHP:
August 28, 2008
Dear fellow pro-lifers I’m sure you’ve already seen the LifeSiteNews story by John-Henry Westen with the headline:
Conservative Party kills Unborn Victims of Crime Act with gutless alternative
And the sub-head:
Government legislation to mirror proposals by pro-abortionists on the issue
Canadians who share those concerns should pay close attention to the advice Internet journalist Joseph Farah is giving his countrymen about the November 2008 presidential election in the USA:
If not, you can read the whole story at:
Conservative Party of Canada Kills Unborn Victims of Crime Act with Gutless Alternative
The Conservative Party now stands fully exposed: they are just as anti-life as the Liberals, NDP, Bloc, Greens, and Marxist-Leninists.
Both the Prime Minister and the Justice Minister have promised to protect the abortion industry against the risk of legislation on abortion coming before Parliament.
They are surely not at all pro-life! What is more, they are anti-democratic, imposing their dogmatic pro-abortion views on Parliament—even denying their own MPs a chance to debate the most important issue before the nation.
Now we can understand why pro-life Conservative MPs like Maurice Vellacott and Ken Epp languish on the back benches: their viewpoint— which their constituents elected them to bring into the policy debates—is simply unwelcome in the Tory caucus.
CHP President Larry Spencer, when he was an Alliance MP, experienced the same shunning by the Prime Minister and his policy cabal over the issue of same-sex “marriage”.
Remember, too, that this is the party and the government that handed over $300 million of taxpayers’ money to Big Pharma, to make Canadian girls as young as nine “guinea pigs” in their promotion of an inadequately-tested vaccine designed to offer partial immunity against four forms of HPV, a sexually-transmitted disease.
There are several important things that can be done right now:
* First, as many pro-lifers as possible should generate a massive wave of memberships in Canada’s only pro-life, pro-family party, the CHP. If you’re a member of the CPC, cancel TODAY. Go to www.chp.ca to join the CHP—and please make a generous donation to help overcome the unfair advantage the four parties now in the House of Commons have given themselves by raiding the public treasury to finance their re-election campaigns.
* Second, all pro-life organizations should publicly declare their support for the CHP in the soon-to-be called federal election.
* Third, every Canadian deserves an opportunity to vote CHP. We still have some openings for candidates in electoral districts across Canada. Why not offer to let your name stand in true defense of the values you believe in and the values this country needs to lead it?
You may previously have supported another party, in hopes that they would support the things you believe in. If so, now you know enough to realize that your support was mis-placed. If you make a principled decision to change, be assured that you have not left your party… your party has left you… just as both major parties—in fact all parties now in Parliament—have abandoned all Canadians who believe in the sanctity of life and the family.
Please pray about taking these decisive steps TODAY.
There’ll never be a better time to make your voice heard!
With you in His service
Ron Gray
National Leader
Christian Heritage Party of Canada
PS - Not everyone will ever agree with all the policies of any political party. We understand that there may be policy issues that have prevented you from supporting the CHP in the past. Those policies can be discussed at our convention in London, ON, November 5-8, if you are a member of the CHP.
But no policy issue is as important as the sanctity of innocent human life and the sanctity of marriage.
And on those issues, only the CHP represents you.

NEWS RELEASE
August 28, 2008
For immediate release
CHP urges Canadians to dump Tories
Blasts Prime Minister Harper & Justice Minister Nicholson as ‘protectors of the abortion industry’
OTTAWA, August 28, 2008 (CHPNews) — With a federal election looming, the Christian Heritage Party has seized on the Conservative government’s move to kill its own MP’s Unborn Victims of Violence Act as a reason to urge Canadians to dump the Conservative Party and join the CHP.
In a strongly-worded statement, CHP leader Ron Gray today noted that Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Justice Minister Rob Nicholson “have promised to protect the abortion industry against the risk of legislation on abortion coming before Parliament.”
“They have made their party the protector of the abortion industry,” Gray said.
The Prime Minister said at the 2005 policy convention: “I will use whatever influence I have to ensure that no legislation on abortion comes before Parliament.” And in a recent statement announcing a government bill to replace Tory MP Ken Epp’s Unborn Victims of Violence Act, Justice Minister Rob Nicholson said, “Let me be clear, our government will not reopen the debate on abortion… the government will introduce legislation that will punish criminals who commit violence against pregnant women but do so in a way that leaves no room for the introduction of fetal rights.”
Gray retorted: “That’s patently absurd. The pre-born child is a full human being. If left undisturbed, it will be born as a human being. The pregnant woman is not ‘going to become a mother’—she is a mother. That child will emerge from the womb. The only question is whether it emerges alive and healthy, or dead and dismembered.
“The fact that courts and legislatures decree that the pre-born child ‘is not a person’ is irrelevant, illogical—and wrong. There was a time when courts and legislatures said people of African ancestry were ‘not persons’; they were wrong. There was a time when the Supreme Court of Canada said women were ‘not persons’; they were wrong.
“The pre-born child is as much a member of the human family as you or I.
“We believe that if we can ever get an honest debate going in Parliament on this issue, the vast majority of Canadians will agree with us on four important points:
• Abortion deliberately takes the life of an innocent human being—and that’s the definition of murder;
• Adoption is the humane and rational alternative to killing the baby.
• A woman facing an unanticipated pregnancy should be given full information, counsel, comfort, and material aid to help her realize that there are non-lethal solutions to her dilemma;
• Canada urgently needs the 105,000 young lives we carelessly snuff out each year.
“We can do better than ‘death as the solution to inconvenient pregnancy’,” Gray said. “We must—our humanity demands it!
“The Conservative Party has every right to join the Liberals, NDP, Bloc, Greens and Marxists as defenders of the abortion industry,” Gray said. “But 70 percent of Canadians consistently say they want restrictions on abortion; about 40 percent believe abortion is the murder of an innocent human being.
“That vast number of Canadians now have no one left to speak for them in the political arena—except the CHP. That’s why we’re urging all pro-life Canadians to abandon the sinking ship of the morally bankrupt left—which includes the Tories—and come to the CHP: it’s the only pro-life, pro-family federal political party in Canada.”
